Collections are holding areas for content found through browsing or searching. They allow you to review the contents of a collection, remove items and narrow down your chosen items.
Each item may be further examined in a collection by downloading its primary rendition. If it is impractical to download the entire collection individually, you may choose to download the entire collection as a compressed file. You can also perform transformations on a collection before downloading.
Collections can be created specifically for video creation. Video bins are designed for time-based content processing. However, the contents of a video bin are not restricted to videos. You can use the video bin to construct time-based material and components such as text files, XML, audio, and images. The video bin includes a preview player which launches and plays its content. Nonplayable files (for example, text) are skipped. The default player is QuickTime.
Video sub-clips can be added to a video bin collection. Since they do not have actual video content, but just a reference to the parents content, the parent video content is always used when playing or downloading the video bin.
Collections can be added to your Favorite Collections node for quick and easy access.
All collections follow the Documentum security model like other Documentum objects.
A Collection is different from the Documentum Clipboard. Collections contain specific renditions that you have chosen to examine further, whereas the clipboard may contain the reference to an entire object. Collections also allow you to perform transformations on the selected renditions within them and to download the collection to another location.
The availability of functionality for video files is dependant upon other Documentum products being installed in your system and configured for your repository. Without these products, video details will not be extracted or generated for imported video files. For assistance, contact your system administrator for questions regarding availability of functionality for videos in your installation of Digital Asset Manager.
