Creating a text track

Text tracks contain textual descriptions for specific segments of a video file.

All text tracks are viewable in the Text Tracks tab of the Video Details. For each text track, the start timecode and end timecode are displayed, along with the text track data.

Text tracks can be created for both parent and sub-clip videos. For sub-clips, text tracks are stored on the sub-clip document by default. When creating a text track for a sub-clip, you may store the text track on the parent video document so that it is accessible to all videos that contain the timecode boundaries of the text track.

If your system has been configured to do so, you may manually add a text track to any video with video details using the following procedure.

To create a video text track:

  1. Navigate to and select a video file.

  2. Select View > Video Details.

The Video Details screen opens for the video file.

  3. Do one of the following:

    1. Click File > New > Text Track.

    2. Select the Text Tracks tab and click New.

The Text Track Editor screen appears.

  4. Select a text trap type from the Classification list.

  5. In the Text field, enter text for the text track.

  6. In the Start Timecode and End Timecode fields, enter start and end timecodes, respectively.

  7. If the text track being created belongs to a sub-clip, there is an option for transferring the text track to the parent video.

Select Assign on the parent video document if you want to assign the text track to the parent video.

  8. Click OK.

The Text Track Editor screen closes and the new text track appears in the Text Tracks tab under the chosen category.
