Editing a video sub-clip

Sub-clips are created by selecting segments of a video file using start and end timecodes. The Sub-clips tab in Video Details displays all video objects that have been derived from a parent video of all of the video’s sub-clips. In addition, sub-clips themselves have their own Video Details.

To edit a sub-clip, you must open its Video Details. Through the sub-clip Video Details, you can edit properties and text tracks for a sub-clip. You may also edit the sub-clip’s start and end timecodes. This means that you can either extend or shorten a sub-clip based on the parent video’s original timecodes. If you choose to change the sub-clip’s start and end timecodes, then the sub-clip will be versioned. This means that previous versions of the sub-clip (using different start and end timecodes) will remain in the repository.

To edit a sub-clip, you must have at least Relate permission on the video.

To edit a video sub-clip:

  1. Navigate to and select a video sub-clip.

  2. Select View > Video Details.

The Video Details screen opens in another window.

  3. Edit the properties in any of the Video Details tabs, such as the text tracks.

  4. To change the sub-clip start and end timecodes, perform the following:

    1. Select the Extended Info tab.

    2. Select the Edit Timecodes link.

      The Sub-clip Timecodes Editor opens.

    3. Use the embedded video player for the parent video to locate new Mark In and Mark Out times.

    4. Manually enter the new Mark In and Mark Out times in the fields in the Sub-clip Timecodes Editor.

To view the selected segment, use the video player controls in the Sub-clip Timecodes Editor.

  5. When you are satisfied with the new Mark In and Mark Out times, click OK.

  6. In the sub-clip Video Details dialog, click Save.

The sub-clip is saved. If you have assigned new timecodes to the sub-clip, the sub-clip is saved as a new version.
